MA at LCC “Poetically Man Dwells”

“Only image formed keeps the vision
Yet image formed rests in the poem”

“He has felt the soil”

In with these photographs, one has made his most profound statements, the ones closest to the heart. A particular, is being equalised with the universal. The specific photographic process of giving a reason, the unspoken, that bridges. Photographs remind one of the decisive forces of the human personality; of our hidden belief that we do not exist for nothing. He believes everything that lives: lives not alone nor for itself. Belonging to the Open, wells up in his heart.

In believing, when the poetic appropriately comes to light, then men dwell humanly on the earth. The voice of thought must be poetic because poetry is the saying of truth. As primal source, his poetic ability is the ability to take measure of the world. And poetry in photography, understood rightly, is the original way in which beings are brought into the open clearing of truth, in which world and earth, mortal and God are bidden to come to their appointed places of meeting.

Appearances become the language of a lived life. The degree to which he believes this is worth looking at, can be judged by all, that he is. Analogue photography and words, are to him an accompaniment to the drama of looking for goodness. His own being constitutes his way of looking for this, for his. He is a loner. He sights a truth, which, by its nature, is not evident. It is waiting to be revealed by him and him alone. He wants his photographs to convert so that the spectator might see beyond lies, the vanity, and the illusions of everyday life.

In this, is his profound sense of searching for the immanent truth. He sees in pain for the most of what happens in the world, particularly the metropolitan world, the vicious world of Babylon. He is afraid to believe profoundly in the Fall of Man. His life duty is to stalk this world and to lie in, wait, for its rare moments of nobility, its redemption from the Fall. But where there is danger, there grows also what saves.

His use of black and white is intimately tied to his sense of vocation. The means he has, to speak with, are black and white. Black, for him, is the valley of the shadow of mortal and moral; light is hope, to which mankind is forever subjected. Then he offers his hand, back to the world, which is drawn across, what we choose to forget or refuse to know. He turns the love that he knows from Mother into a principal to be searched for, wherever he goes. Love is always, among other things, pity. The love of the mourner and the healer. The love of the survivor for the dead. Somewhere this man’s heart is that of a mother.”

She is often near death; she is often in sacrifice
But she is remarkable. You wouldn’t be aware of
Courage, – unless you were aware of Her”

As on, some far and northern strand
Thinking of his own Gods, a Greek
In pity and mournful awe might stand

For both were faiths, and both are gone”

Not by their faces, not by their words
For their Being is no longer anywhere
Indeed they are no longer anywhere

The atom bomb could bring with it
Meanwhile, the atom bomb and its explosion
Has long since taken place, has already been
What is this, helpless anxiety still waiting for
When the terrible has already happened before”

“View remains open as long as the work is a work
As long as the God has not fled from it
It is not a portrait whose purpose is
To make it easier to realize how the God looks
Rather, it is, a work that lets the God himself
Be present and thus is the God himself”

The dust that is speaking to you
Anyone can put an end to this dust
The price for which the uprising must
In this diluting modern age ought to disintegrate

Anxiety was born with presence of the first human and a clock”

“Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths
Enwrought with golden and silver light
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light

I have spread my dreams under your feet
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams”

Which is now advancing against their invaders at last
And the violence had done to them throughout their lives

“Our dwelling is harassed by the housing shortage
If that were not so, dwelling today is harassed by work
Made insecure by the hunt for gain and success
Bewitched by the entertainment and recreation industry
But still there is room left in today’s dwelling for the poetic
Giving way to the alien in the sight of the familiar ethic”
